Teach children road safety

A reader feels the death of a pedestrian can not always become the problem of the road users.

EDITOR – As the incident where a child was killed in Sparks Road is extremely sad, I do not see the community taking any responsibility for their own children. I cannot imagine the agony those parents are experiencing and do not wish it on any other.

Mothers, like us, take care of our children and always should. Can they not be asked to teach their children to stay away from the roads or accompany them when they have to walk on the road? It cannot always become the problem of the road users.

Not one person wants to ever be burdened with that, of being responsible for the death of a pedestrian. I assume it is something that could cause long term psychological trauma.

The problem is that even if you hit a child at 50km they will probably not survive so no action against motorists will have a positive outcome.

My condolences to the family.
