Two sentenced to 45 years imprisonment

The men were charged and taken to Durban Regional Court where they were tried for robbery, hijacking and 'pointing of a firearm'.

DURBAN Regional Court convicted and sentenced Siboniso Ernest Magwaza, (30), and Bonginhlanhla Nzuza, (25), to a total of 45 years imprisonment on 18 May, for a robbery they committed in Sydenham.

In March 2015, a group of unknown armed males entered business premises in RD Naidu (Stanley Copley) Drive, robbed the employees of an undisclosed amount of cash and customers of their valuables at gunpoint. They fled the scene in a customer’s vehicle.

A case of business robbery was opened at Sydenham Police Station and was transferred to Durban Central Trio Task Team for investigation.

The investigation was conducted and the accused were arrested in Ntuzuma and Newland, a month after the incident.

They were charged and taken to Durban Regional Court where they were tried for robbery, hijacking and pointing of a firearm.

The accused were kept in custody until their sentencing and were each sentenced to 15 years for robbery, 15 years for hijacking and 15 years for pointing of a firearm.

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, praised the investigators on the successful prosecution of the accused.
