Calling all aspirant fashion models

eThekwini Municipality is inviting aspirant models to attend auditions for this year's Durban Fashion Fair.

YOUNG people from eThekwini Municipality who are eager to break into the modelling industry and participate at Durban’s annual premier fashion event, the Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) 2017, are invited to modelling auditions.

The auditions, which will take place over two days on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 May, from 8am to 5pm at Durban Botanic Gardens, will provide young men and women the opportunity to display their talents on the catwalk, showcasing the work of local fashion designers during the DFF in August.

EThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said the creative industry has increasingly been recognised as a key potential contributor to job creation.

“The City initiated the Fashion Development Programme as one of the devises to respond to economic challenges facing the City and poising a major challenge to economic growth. This is a great platform for our young people to explore opportunities that the fashion industry possesses,” she said.

The programme demonstrates the City’s commitment to developing the youth and exposing them to various creative platforms.
“With the model scouting, we are opening opportunities for young people to tap into the fashion industry and to build a culture of entrepreneurship,” said Gumede.

She added that unemployment remains one of major challenges in the City and through this programme the municipality wants the youth to be actively involved in addressing socio-economic challenges by creating employment opportunities.

Aspirant models that are keen in pursuing a modelling career are encouraged to take part in this opportunity. They are not required to have any modelling experience or be represented by an agency and don’t require a portfolio of photographs.
