Umbilo mom’s murderer given 15 years

Sibusiso Blessing Myende (47) was arrested for murdering his partner, a teacher at Briardale Primary School, in Umbilo.

THE man who shot and killed his partner in front of her eight-year-old daughter, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Sibusiso Blessing Myende was arrested for murdering his partner, a teacher at Briardale Primary School, in Umbilo on 20 March.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, the woman, Gugu Pretty Nkosi, and the suspect had been living together for five years, and neighbours suspected domestic violence.

On 20 March at around 3pm, the man shot Nkosi twice in the face at their residence in Bartle Road. She later died at the scene.

Myende was arrested by Ntuzuma police later that night.

The gun, that was recovered at the scene of the crime, will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crimes in the province.

The 47-year-old was charged with murder and sentenced in Durban Regional Court on 30 March.

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, praised the members of Umbilo for solving this case within a few weeks after it was reported.

“We strongly condemn such barbaric killings of vulnerable women who are being attacked by the perpetrators. Those who abuse their loved ones in any form, will face the long arm of the law,” he said.
