Bonus point for Quins

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club's first team won by nine wickets against Chatsworth United.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club hosted its annual awards event at Harlequins on Friday evening, 17 March.

Top performing players of each team were lauded for their individual achievements in their respective leagues for their endeavours during the course of the current season. As the first and fifth teams still had two rounds of league matches remaining, allocation of shields for those teams achievers was postponed until the conclusion of this season.

The penultimate round of league and T20 group matches were played on Sunday 19 March. Quins took on Chatsworth United in a KZNCU stream one Challenge League encounter. Seamer Trevor Campbell claimed 2/17 runs off five overs and right arm wrist spinner Dieter Liebenberg got 3/12 runs in 32 deliveries, limiting Chatsworth United to 47 runs in 18.2 overs.

Quins’ batsmen responded emphatically with Faisal Barakzai scoring 19 runs, but was bowled out by an opposition seamer. Captain Ryan Baronet was undefeated with 21 runs. Quins went through to a nine wicket victory and a bonus point.

Other team results: Quins’ 5ths took on Phoenix: Phoenix 5 were dismissed for 127 runs in 29 overs (Jarrod Murgatroyd, Webster Geekie and Theo van Heerden all took two wickets and Clinton Abrahams took 3/13 runs. Jarrod Murgatroyd made 72 runs). Quins 5 won by eight wickets.

Quins’ U11s played Umgababa: Quins won by nine wickets (Udav Singh 4/5).

The final round of official league matches will be on Sunday 26 March.

Quins will host a 20 over tournament on 1 April at Harlequins at 8am.

Juniors will be coached on Thursday at 5pm and seniors will practice on Friday at 4.30pm.
