The case has been adjourned until Wednesday, 15 March.

THE Durban abducted baby’s biological mother and her alleged boyfriend appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the hijacking and abduction of the baby girl. In yet another shocking twist, the court reportedly ordered paternity tests to be taken, as the the paternity of the one-month-old child is in question. The case has been adjourned until Wednesday, 15 March.

The State is set to compile a complete a list of charges. Earlier today, police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, said the suspects could also face additional charges such as the contravention of the children’s act and misuse of state resources.

The third person arrested (a woman) did not appear in court today and her name did not appear on the roll.

Mathe said a special prosecutor has been assigned to the case. The one-month-old little girl is currently in a place of safety and being cared for by the Department of Social Development.

The baby was found by police in the early hours of Sunday morning, after she was apparently abducted in a hijacking at midday on Friday.
