THE public are urged to be aware of road closures relating to the zeroing and execution of the Night Fire Plan at Blue Lagoon Beach today, 20 February.
Parking areas behind the Blue Lagoon Beach from the river mouth to the South until the picnic area will cordoned off.
This area will be restricted to SANDF vehicles only. These areas will be closed off from 8am until 9pm. This area will for the duration of the live fire exercise will be utilized as a public viewing area. Military personnel will be at hand to marshall civilian spectators. The M4 bridge over the Umgeni river will be the ideal viewing point.
The grassy area between the parking lot and the paved walkway will be the deployment area for the weapon systems during the exercise. The zeroing of weapons will start at 3pm until 4pm. The actual fire plan will be executed from 7pm until 8pm. The activities will be completed at 9pm.
The M4 highway will be closed for the duration of the zeroing and execution of the shoot. All arms of service will be represented and the following weapon systems will be shooting such as the Gripen Multi role fighter, Hawk Mk120, Rooivalk Combat Support Helicopter, Olifant Main Battle Tank Rooikat Armoured Car, Bosvark 23mm, 35mm Anti Aircraft Gun, G5 155mm Gun M5 120mm Mortar and Bateleur Multiple Rocket Launcher.
Be advised that this demonstration is live and the noise levels will be high it is important to warn the young and members with animals or pets to take precautionary measures.
