Railways too strong for Quins team

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club's first team lost its Challenge League encounter against Railways by 125 runs.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team took on Railways in a 50 over-a-side stream one Challenge League match on Sunday.

Quins, being without a front line strike bowler, again failed to dismiss opposition batsmen at the required rate and allowed Railways number four batsman Dawood Mather to accumulate 100 runs. With their tally on 205 runs in the 39th over Railways tactically declared their innings closed with six wickets down, due to ever increasing prospects of rain and darkening stratus clouds.

Quins’ tactics were simply to elevate their run rate in the hopes that a premature abandonment prior to the 20th over might give them the victory that they desired. However, despite some rain falling from the 16th over, the match continued beyond the 20th over with opening batsman Faisal Barakzai scoring 23 runs, middle order batsman Kalvin Venter making 16 runs, and Ryan Baronet managing 11 runs.

Quins were dismissed in the 27th over for 80 runs losing this match by 125 runs.

Other team results: Quins’ U11s won by default against Fam Kwa Makuta, as the team refused to travel to Quins because of the rainy weather.

Quins 3rds vs DHS/ Rhythm 3: Match abandoned with Quins at 218 runs for the loss of six wickets in the 28th over (Warren Torguis scored 92 run, Lloyd Watts made 52 runs).

Quins 5ths vs Chesterville: Chesterville scored 131 runs all out, Quins 5 won by four wickets (Jarrod Murgatroyd 5/23, Jarrod Murgatroyd and Quentin Oosthuysen scored 18 runs each, Willem Fourie struck 28 runs).

Coaching sessions for U11s are on Thursdays at 5pm and practice for seniors is on Fridays at 4.30pm.
