Quins earn five match points

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club's first team beat Chatsworth United in a Challenge League encounter.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club played its eighth Challenge League match of the current season in the form of a 50 over a side league match against Chatsworth United.

The wicket was not sufficiently compacted allowing for right arm medium pace off cut bowler Azhar Patel to acquire significant lateral deviation of the wicket surface and to remove five of United’s middle order and tail batsmen for 10 runs in just four overs. He was aided by medium pacer Aziz Khan who claimed two wickets for four runs off 21 deliveries, and right arm away swing bowler Andre Potgieter who spearheaded Quins’ bowing attack capturing two wickets for 19 runs in four overs.

Chatsworth United’s batsmen were dismissed for 47 runs in 17, 3 overs. Quins’ opening batsman Thala Mothala was caught and bowled for 12 runs, Ryan Baronet was the match’s top scorer striking 27 runs including two boundaries and a six. Quins utilised 47 deliveries to surpass the required target, earning five crucial match points.

Other team results: Quins 3rds vs ACC: Quins 3 made 219 runs (Brett Williams scored 59 runs, Shane Manicom scored 36 runs, Pierre Horn scored 31 runs). ACC 3 tied up the match off the 316th and final delivery of the game, for the loss of five wickets.

Quins 5ths vs East Coast 3: Quins 5 made 100 runs (Jarrod Murgatroyd scored 18 runs, Johan Hendriks compiled 19 runs, Quintin Oosthuizen and Willem (Wessel) Fourie struck 14 runs each). East Coast 3 won the game.

Quins U11s vs ACC2: Quins made 204 runs (Jordan Dekker got 41 runs, Reece Manicom made 50 runs, Cameron Laing made 35 runs, Slade Locke made 17 runs, Udhav Singh captured three wickets for four runs in four overs). Quins U11s won by 167 runs. The U11 team is currently at the top of the Durban and District Cricket Unions’ U11 stream south youth league.

Quins first, second fourth and sixth teams have league matches during the upcoming weekend.

Coaching for juniors is at 5pm on Thursday. Practice for seniors is from 4.30pm on Friday.
