Surfer survives near drowning

The girl was surfing when she experienced difficulty in the water.

A 16-year-old surfer has survived a near drowning at uShaka Beach in Durban at 9.30am today, 6 January.

According to Chris Botha from Netcare 911, reports from the scene indicate that the girl was surfing when she experienced difficulty in the water.

“When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene, they found that the girl had been pulled out of the water by her dad. We also found lifeguards initiating basic first aid,” he said.

He said Netcare 911 paramedics took over from the lifeguards and assessed the patient, continued with oxygen therapy and thereafter transported her to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
