City warns suppliers against con artists

Unscrupulous agents are fraudulently charging suppliers money to help them register on the National Treasury’s Central Supplier Database and the city's Vendor Portal.

EThekwini Municipality  has warned suppliers wanting to register on its Vendor Portal to be aware of agents fraudulently charging suppliers money to help them register on the National Treasury’s Central Supplier Database and the city’s Vendor Portal.

According to the city, the agents then restrict access to logon information hindering the supplier’s engagement with the City regarding requests for proposals and possible opportunities to quote for services and goods.

“This act contravenes the City’s policies. EThekwini Municipality does not charge suppliers to register on its database and neither does National Treasury. Both National Treasury and the city have walk-in centres and other resources available to aid suppliers in registering at no cost,” said Tozi Mthethwa, head of communications for the city.

Suppliers are reminded that the location of walk-in centres to register as a supplier with Treasury can be found at www.csd.gov.za.

The address of the walk-in centre to register as a supplier with the Municipality is the 6th floor, City Engineers Building, KE Masinga Road, Durban.
