No load shedding planned for festive season

Eskom has urged consumers to use electricity sparingly to ensure the reliability of power supply.

ESKOM has confirmed that there will be no load shedding this festive season, despite the increase of electricity usage during the holiday celebrations.

In a statement yesterday the parastatal’s Media Desk said, “Our projections are that there will be no load shedding, not just during the festive season, but beyond.”

This prediction, it said, was based on Eskom’sĀ focused maintenance programme.

Eskom said it managed to optimise its maintenance by introducing a new tool called Tetris,Ā that ‘visually demonstrates balance between supply and demand’.

“Operational performance improvements are the main contributing factors for the positive outlook. With many industries also closing and residential customers going on holiday during the festive season, there will not be an increase in electricity usage.”

However, Eskom still urged its customers to use electricity sparingly ‘to ensure the reliability of power supply’.
