Ward committee election goes ahead

Ward 31's committee was elected on Sunday, 27 November.

THINGS ran a lot more smoothly at the ward 31 (Musgrave/Overport/Sydenham) committee elections on Sunday after they were postponed the previous week due to disruptions and confusion. Councillor Chris Pappas said he was happy with the outcome of Sunday’s elections.

Residents who were elected onto the ward committee were Zamo Mchunu, Anele Mseswa, Kern Boucher, Charmaine Clayton, Simphiwe Ngcamu, Easlyn Young, Mogadasen Moodley, Ashraj Ayood, Nicolette Goss and Nonhlanhla Nzimande.

“There will still be a background check on the elected members to determine if they are able to be part of the committee and there will also be consideration of gender, race and other representation,” said Pappas.

Residents of ward 33 (Glenwood/Umbilo) have lodged an appeal against the results of the ward committee election held on 20 November and are in the process of petitioning for this committee to be dissolved, and a re-election held.
