Memorial for road traffic victims

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2016 will be in Florida Road on Sunday.

THE World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) is commemorated on the 3rd Sunday of November each year, to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world’s roads, together with their families, friends and many others who are also affected.

It is also a day on which families thank the emergency services and reflect on the tremendous burden and cost of this daily continuing disaster to families, communities and countries, and on ways to halt it.

Spiga restaurant in Florida Road hosts a commemorative event every year on this day called Remember Me. This year, along with the Florida Road UIP, organisers have put together an interactive event featuring live music and street art, as well as a memorial installation for the public to pay tribute to those lives lost on the roads.
The event is proudly supported by SADD – South African Against Drunk Driving, as well as the Road Traffic Management Corporation to bring awareness and education to the public about the perils of drinking and driving, texting and driving, pedestrian safety and general road safety.

Join the memorial wall installation with street artist Giffy Duminy. Write messages, put up photos or lay flowers for the people you would like to remember.
The live music line-up will feature DaddyStrings, Mbijana Sibisi, Chico Muya, Zethe, Otarel, ByLwansta, Oudskul, Kallisto, Palmdrive and Snapbvck.

This family friendly celebration of art, music, craft and life will be on Sunday, 20 November from 10am to 6pm at the Gordon Road Park, corner of Florida and Gordon Roads. Entrance is free.
