School wins Sunflower Fund competition

Maris Stella won the national Sunflower Fund Schools Competition.

MARIS Stella School won the Sunflower Fund’s National Schools Competition.

Every year, Maris Stella embraces Sunflower Fund Day with excitement, joy and love, and this year, the school chose to coincide these festivities with the official arrival of spring. This is the 9th year that Maris Stella has supported the Sunflower Fund.

The criteria to win the schools competition included that a school had to buy the greatest number of Topes in relation to learner numbers. Maris Stella purchased more than 900 topes, and has 800 girls at the school. The schools were then encouraged to take photos of pupils and teachers showing the most creative way to wear a Tope, and the school with the greatest number of likes on Facebook for these uploaded image receives was in the running to win.

Maris Stella’s post about its Sunflower Fund Day received 3050 likes.

The Prep and High School classes held their annual Sunflower Fund Fashion Show, organised by the Grade 11s. This year’s theme was Back to the Future, and Tanith King of the Sunflower Fund and well-known Durban fashion designer, Greg Wallis, were the judges. Each class worked together to create an outfit made from Topes. “We are so honoured to support the Sunflower Fund and the incredible work that they do, in our small way,” said Cindy Hudson from Maris Stella.
