Armed hijackers threaten mum and baby

A Morningside mother is traumatised after having a gun pointed at her and her eight-month-old daughter in a hijacking last week.

A MORNINGSIDE woman is still battling with the trauma of being hijacked outside her home on Friday morning.

Speaking to Berea Mail, her husband, who asked not to be named, said the woman had noticed a Grey VW Polo driving up the road behind her as she was approaching her complex in Ferndale Road at around 10am after returning from gym. The vehicle passed her and driver drove on a short distance, turned around and drove back down the road again.

“My wife drove into the parking of the complex, which is open, and was getting our eight-month-old daughter and her gym bag out the car. Before she could close the door, the men had run into the complex parking and pointed a gun at her, and then at our daughter,” he said.

Shocked, the woman didn’t put up a fight as the men demanded the keys to her red Golf 5, and her cellphone. They fled with the vehicle which has still not been recovered.

“I am very angry. My wife was attended to by the police, however usually thereafter people come to counsel the victim, but we haven’t heard from anyone at all. My father was hijacked and shot twice in the face eight years ago, and died as a result of the injuries, and again the police attended the scene but we never heard from anyone again,” he said.

The man said his wife was battling to sleep at night and still trying to deal with the trauma of the hijacking.

“She is recovering, but she wakes up with panic attacks at night and doesn’t even realise it. Seeing a gun pointed at her baby daughter was very traumatic. It is a sick place we live in, and I don’t think it’s going to get any better,” he said.
