Eskom issues warning of banking scam

The public is warned not to fall victim to an Eskom banking scam .

ESKOM has issued a public warning about a scam where fraudsters, pretending to be Eskom claim Eskom has changed its banking account to Nedbank and provides new banking details.

The conmen use letters, faxes and emails bearing the Eskom logo and the forged signature of Eskom’s Group Chief Executive, Mr Brian Molefe. They have also forged Nedbank banking details.
Eskom customers are asked to be aware that Eskom does not have a banking account with Nedbank and that Eskom would never send notifications to its customers in this manner.
Eskom’s banking details appear on a customer’s electricity bill and, if in doubt. contact the Eskom Customer Call Centre on 08600 37566 for verification.
To report incidents of fraud, corruption and irregularities involving Eskom,  the public are requested to call Eskom’s crime line on 0800 11 27 22 or email investigate@eskom.co.za to report the incident.
