Ward 33 candidate clings to gifted lucky charm

Ward 33 candidate, Mmabatho Tembe, is hopeful she will take the Glenwood and Umbilo ward after receiving generous support and a 'lucky charm' beaded bracelet gifted from a resident ahead of the local government elections.

WARD 33 Democratic Alliance candidate, Glenwood’s Mmabatho Tembe, is extremely positive about the results of yesterday’s local government elections.

Showing off a beaded ‘lucky charm’ bracelet, Tembe proudly told Berea Mail it was sent as a gift to her from a supportive Glenwood resident.

“The people of Glenwood, where I live are lovely and very supportive. A lady handmade this for me and sent it to me this week for good luck,” she said. The bracelet with heart inscribed “Made for You” touched the candidate. “I’m overwhelmed with joy, and think this bracelet was made personally with love, time, and hope for me. It’s symbolic, I will in turn take the time, hard work and dedication to ensure that that I work just as hard for the ward if I become councillor,” she said.

Tembe was confident with the information received from DA party agents around the ward, however due to recounting in Ward 33, the results are not out and she cannot celebrate at this point. “I do feel the DA will retain the ward and I am personally very excited, a bit nervous and look forward to what lies ahead. I was really blown away by the positive response I received by the residents this week,” she added.
