Storm damage forces closure of beaches

Durban’s North and South beaches have been closed due to storm damage.

DURBAN’S North and South beaches in Durban have been closed due to high seas and storm damage.

According to the municipality, the decision to close beaches has been taken as a precautionary measure, to ensure the safety of residents and holidaymakers.

“There is extensive structural damage on Durban’s beaches following heavy rains that started on Sunday. There is also a huge amount of flotsam and jetsam as well as organic matter in the water,” said Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

She said a major clean-up operation will be undertaken and the public will be notified once the beaches have been re-opened.
