Roof hopping housebreaker arrested

A local security company arrested a man who could be connected to a housebreaking in Earl Haig Road last week.

BLUE Security armed response officers swooped on a nimble roof hopping housebreaker in Morningside on Tuesday, 28 June.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the officers had responded to a panic alarm in Earl Haig Road after a resident spotted the alleged housebreaker on her next door neighbour’s roof.

“Our officers arrived on the scene to investigate and when the suspect saw them he hopped from roof to roof in a desperate but unsuccessful bid to evade arrest,” he said.

Jackson said the man was arrested and handed over to the Mayville SAPS who also attended the scene.

Jackson said a property in Earl Haig Road had been burgled last week and items reported stolen had included a laptop, two watches and a computer hard drive.

“The suspect is at this stage believed to be connected to the burglary,” he said.
