Glenwood cricketer recognised

Emerging KZN talent, along with a local cricketer, were honoured at a SA U19 selection.

TWO of KwaZulu-Natal’s stars of the future, Glenwood High School’s Jerome Bossr and Hilton College’s Eathan Bosch, are currently in action in Sri Lanka representing the South Africa U19 side, an opportunity they are both highly grateful for.

As the first three-day Youth Test between the two nations kicked off on Thursday, 16 June, the pair opened their international accounts eager to make the most of the sub-continental tour.

“It is a privilege to be part of the SA U19 side and a dream come true for me. Hopefully I can score runs for the team and contribute as much as I can to the squad in general,” said Bossr.

Glenwood High School matric pupil, Bossr has made his way through KZN’s age groups having represented the province at two Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Weeks as well as the Dolphins Cubs outfit while Bosch has followed a similar path through KZN Inland’s U15, U17 and U19 ranks.

While their national week experience stands them in good stead, the pair are ready for the heightened challenge that international age-group cricket presents as well as the uniquely testing Sri Lankan environment.

“This trip has been a whole new level of cricket for us as a team. We are learning every day, and we continue to work really hard in this professional environment that we are fortunate to be in,” explains Bossr.

The young duo are relishing the opportunity to ply their trade in foreign conditions while also enjoying meeting the Sri Lankan people and learning about the host nation.

“The tour has been a big eye opener already “It has been great to see how different the Sri Lankan culture is to ours and how polite their people are,” says Bossr.

The three-match Youth Test Series takes the SA U19 side to Colombo, Kurunegela and Kandy before the squad returns to the former for three Youth ODIs in mid-July. Both Bossr and Bosch are set to be involved in both formats.
