KZN hosts children’s karate nationals

Karatekas are gearing up to take part in the 2016 Children’s Nationals this month.

KARATE KZN’s provincial body is to host the 2016 Children’s Nationals in KZN at the end of February.

President of KSA, Sonny Pillay Hanshi, expressed his confidence in the hosting of the event: “Given the various challenges that the national federation has faced over the past 12 months KSA is now firmly on track to continue with its national activities tournaments included.”

All nine KSA provinces are currently holding regional as well as provincial trials as part of the selection process for the children’s and cadets’ nationals scheduled at the Tongaat Sports Centre.

Brando Pillay, who is the technical convenor for Karate KZN, said the KZN karateka are ready to do battle with the ‘best of the best’ fighters from throughout the republic at the forthcoming championships.

“Our KZN cadets and children karate champs will rise to the occasion come the weekend of the event,” added the Protea national coach.

National Tournament director, Leonardo Ciutto, is optimistic that a record entry in excess of 1 000 children and cadets will gather on Durban’s shores for the prestigious national karate championship.
