Operation Fiela yields results

A total of 336 suspects were arrested for various crimes in a two day operation last week.

A JOINT operation conducted under the umbrella of Operation Fiela, comprising inter alia of members of the SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, the Metro Police and private security, yielded results when 336 suspects were arrested in a two day operation.

The operation was conducted on 10 December and 11 December and suspects were arrested across KwaZulu-Natal.

During the operation, security forces seized drugs and illegal goods including firearms, alcohol, dagga, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, rock cocaine, whoonga straws, counterfeit DVDs, counterfeit CDs, illegal cigarettes and knives.

A total of 186 premises, 687 vehicles and 1 390 persons were searched. The seized firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if they were used in the commission of any crime in the country. All arrested suspects will appear in the various magistrates’ courts soon.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended members of various security agencies who contributed on the arrest of the suspects.

“These operations will continue throughout the province of KwaZulu-Natal during the festive season to ensure that all those who are breaking the law are brought to book. Members of the public are urged to co-operate with security forces on the ground during this period and ensure that they are complying with the laws of the country,” she said.
