Alert police nab robber

Berea police made headway with their fight against criminal elements with the arrest of a house breaking suspect on Thursday morning.

BEREA police arrested a man on Thursday morning for housebreaking and recovered high performance tools used by criminals to break into homes.

The arrest followed a chase when Captain Thomas Naidoo was given information of two suspects walking with alleged stolen items along Berea Park towards John Zikhali (Sydenham) Road.

Captain Kevin Stephen with his team of Constables TE Dlamini and DT Mofokeng responded to the information in a marked vehicle.

When the suspects saw the police van approaching, they dropped the items and ran in opposite directions. The members chased the suspects and while one got away on foot in the Essenwood area, the other suspect was arrested.

Police also found the recovered house breaking implements and industrial power tools, including a set of allan keys Makita angle grinder, Makita circular saw and cutters.

The suspect was detained at Berea SAPS and will appear in court soon.
