Tree of Light switch on

The Highway Hospice encourages the community to be part of the Tree of Light "switch on" ceremony heralding the beginning of the festive season at Jameson Park this Friday evening.

THE switch-on ceremony for Highway Hospice Tree of Light, one of the most important appeals of the year is on Friday evening, 4 December at Jameson Park, (Opposite Mitchell Park) at 6 pm Christmas themed music by dedicated volunteer musicians.

It is a beautiful and touching ceremony and a time to remember loved ones who are no longer with us.

There will be food stalls but people are welcome to take along a picnic basket as well as a blanket. People are also encouraged to take umbrellas in case it rains.

A few tents will be erected for shelter just in case. The Hospice also asks people to buy candles and light them on the night.

The actual lighting of the Tree takes place at 7.45 pm (weather permitting) when more than 9000 globes light up with soft radiance. The Tree will shine throughout December.

Donors and the public were invited to buy a globe for R50 each, to support Highway Hospice and honour the memory of a loved one, as December is a special time of the year when people remember their loved ones at Christmas.
