DA names candidate for Ward 33 election

Nicole Graham will contest the Ward 33 by-election for the DA.

THE Democratic Alliance has announced its candidate for the upcoming by-election in ward 33 is PR councillor Nicole Graham.

Ward 33 comprises Glenwood and Umbilo, and was previously held by DA Councillor Warwick Chapman, who has since moved to work for the party in Cape Town.

Graham was elected as a proportional representation councillor in the May 2011 local government election and has served as a councillor in Pinetown South and surrounds for just over two years. She lives in Glenwood.

Graham is also on the provincial DA Youth executive committee and is a DA committee whip in the city dealing with economic development.

DA eThekwini Caucus Leader, Zwakele Mncwango, said Graham was more than capable to represent all residents of Ward 33. He also believes councillor Graham will bring a new energy and focus to issues facing the ward.

“This ward is incredibly diverse and one I am excited to be able to work in. There are many challenges, most notably the increasing crime and grime in the area, that I am ready to tackle head-on. The area also holds much potential for development and improvement upon what already exists here,” said Graham.

The by-election will take place on 18 September. There will be a registration weekend on 3 and 4 August for voters to register at their local voting station.
