Talent recognised in writing competition

Aspiring writers were awarded for their stories in a Forestry Tale Writing Competition.

THE prize-giving for the Forestry Tale Writing Competition at the recent Book and Design Fair Durban,co-ordinated by Green Heart City Movement and South African Writers’ Circle (SAWC) was held on Friday 11 September.

The prize-giving recognised three main prize winners and five recommended prize winners were awarded in the categories Emerging Talent, Innovative Structure, Emphasis on the Past, Creative Flair, and Graphic Narrative – Framescape Award.

In the main section of the competition, the first prize went to Amrita by Pieter Scholtz, the second prize went to The Unexpected Hero by Michelle de Beer and the third prize went to Futility by Danielle Steyn.

The writing competition is a prominent feature of Book and Design Fair Durban. The competition theme follows the BRICs countries with the 2015 edition linking Africa and India around the topic of forests. A feature of the well-attended event is to encourage writers to set their stories in Green Heart City Durban with a view to positioning Durban at the forefront of the Green Economy and fantasy tales.
