Pigeon Valley cleanup gets the nod

Volunteers cleaned up Pigeon Valley nature reserve at the weekend.

AN enthusiastic group of volunteers removed litter along the tracks of Pigeon Valley on Saturday 5 July.

Organised by Friends of Pigeon Valley, they removed a large amount of litter that had been thrown in, blown in or washed into the reserve.

“The reasons for the clean up were that the undergrowth has died back a lot, revealing litter that had been thrown into it. The recent rain brought down a lot of litter onto the main track. The aim was to keep the reserve in excellent condition, give youngsters in particular a chance to engage with the natural environment, and to build up a sense of identification of local residents with their nature reserve,” said Crispin Hemson from Friends of Pigeon Valley.

Crispin said nature responded appropriately to the clean up, when a male Narina Trogon appeared later to give its approval, the first in a long time.
