Homeless woman attacked and raped, police search for suspect

A woman (23) was preparing to sleep near South Beach bush when a gang of six men attacked her.

POLICE are searching for a suspect after a homeless woman was attacked and raped by a gang of six men.

The Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit detectives are calling for community members to come forward with information that could assist in solving a case of rape.

“It is alleged that on July 8, at about 22:00, a 23-year-old woman, who stays in the street, was preparing to sleep near South Beach bush. She was attacked by six males who forcefully pushed her [down] and raped her,” said SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Zanele Khomo.

Police are circulating an image of a man they are searching for. It is believed this man can assist in solving the case.

Police believe that the man pictured can be of assistance in solving the case.

“We appeal to anyone who might have information regarding the man in the picture to contact the investigating officer,” said Khomo.
