Durban school scores at soccer tournament

Durban High School was among the 28 soccer teams that took part, including 12 boys’ high school teams, nine girls’ high school teams and eight primary school teams.

IT was a success on the soccer field for Durban High School as they won in the Senior Boys’ category of the inaugural Kearsney Soccer Tournament recently.

Nearly 500 aspiring soccer players from around the country participated in the three-day event.

Penalty shootouts decided the winners in all three divisions: Durban High School (Senior Boys), Edendale Technical High from Pietermaritzburg (Senior Girls), and Hillcrest Primary School (Junior Boys).

“It’s been three fantastic days of fun, friendship, and competition, and we thank all the participating boys and girls for joining us for this wonderful event. We can’t wait for next year’s Kearsney Soccer Tournament,” said Patrick Lees, headmaster of Kearsney College.

Of the 28 soccer teams which took part, there were 12 boys’ high school teams, nine girls’ high school teams and eight primary school teams. The senior boys’ teams included Durban High School, Clifton College, Maqhutshane Secondary, Siyajabula High, Curro Grantleigh, Ashton Ballito, Port Shepstone High and hosts Kearsney College.

The teams from girls’ high schools were Durban Girls High, Danville Park Girls and SAFA eThekwini (all Durban), Ashton Ballito, Curro Hillcrest, St Mary’s DSG (Kloof), Edendale Tech, St Anne’s Diocesan College (Hilton) and Lebone ll College (Rustenburg).
