City announces road closure ahead of Africa Travel Indaba

With the Africa Travel Indaba attracting some 6 000 delegates to the area, motorists are urged to use alternate routes.

DURBAN’S Walnut Road will be closed until May 12 as preparations for the Africa Travel Indaba get underway.

The Indaba is expected to draw over 6 000 delegates, buyers, and media from all over the world to Durban.

It takes place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre from May 8–11.

The eThekwini Municipality announced the road closure in a statement released on May 4.

“eThekwini Municipality notifies the public about the temporary closure of Walnut Road between Bram Fischer Road and Dr AB Xuma Street until May 12. The closure is to accommodate and ensure the smooth proceedings of the Africa Travel Indaba,” said the City.

“Activities around the closed road include outdoor exhibitions and a natural segway to the Durban Exhibition Centre to create a cohesive precinct,” continued the City.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes during this period.
