SAPS call for volunteers – become a reservist in Berea

Eligible applicants must be South African citizens by birth between the ages of 20 and 50.

THE South African Police Service is looking for community volunteers to sign up to become a Reservist and assist in the fight against crime.

A Reservist performs voluntary duties in the South African Police Service without any expectation of receiving compensation for such duty.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

– be a South African citizen by birth
– be at least 20 years old and below 50 years of age
– complete a health questionnaire determined by the National Commissioner, at his or her own cost, that is confirmed by a registered medical practitioner
– be mentally and physically fit to perform the duties of a Reservist
– be of sound character
– have a National Senior Certificate (Vocational) Level 4
– be able to speak, read and write at least two official languages, of which one must be English– allow his or her fingerprints and DNA sample to be taken
– be prepared to undergo training as may be determined by the National Commissioner
– be prepared to take the prescribed oath of office
– understand that his or her services may be terminated at the age of 60
– provide proof of his or her residential address
– must not have a criminal record or any criminal or departmental cases pending against him or her
– understand that employment is not a prerequisite requirement, but applicants who are employed will receive preference
