Woman dies after allegedly drowning at Umbilo home

A woman in her fifties was pulled out of a pool at an Umbilo home and was declared dead at the scene after allegedly drowning.

THIS afternoon, ALS Paramedics arrived at an Umbilo home on Jamieson Crescent where two people were allegedly involved in a drowning incident. A woman found at the home was declared dead at the scene and another man found at the scene had sustained injuries but was stabilised by paramedics.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says that ALS Paramedics Medical Services, together with Emer-G-Med, arrived on the scene to find a lady in her fifties in a state of cardiac arrest after being pulled from a swimming pool.

“Despite Advanced Life Support resuscitation efforts for over half an hour, the patient did not survive and was declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.

A male believed to be in his fifties had also sustained injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that he required.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the incident are unknown, however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further,” said the spokesperson.
