WATCH: Back to school touchdown as The Beast visits Berea school

Rugby legend, Tendai ‘The Beast’ Mtawarira visited Berea Primary School this morning to escort learner Prince Jori to his first day of Grade One.

THERE was much excitement as learners returned to Berea Primary School for the first school day in 2023 on Wednesday, January 18. Among the youngsters taking their first steps through the school gates was Prince Jori, who was escorted by South African rugby legend, Tendai ‘The Beast’ Mtawarira.

Mtawarira made the special visit as an ambassador for Mukuru, a financial services platform. Cindy Klassen, acting head of marketing for Mukuru, said the company would sponsor 2023 school fees for 31 children across the month.

Speaking to Berea Mail, Mtawarira said, “Today is all about Mukuru giving back and promoting education. I am here specifically to accompany this young man on his first day of school in Grade One at Berea Primary. Education is key, and it’s great to support young people like this in their future.”

“Every day this January, one Mukuru Centre child has an opportunity to win a year’s school fees. This was another element of the campaign, where we asked customers if they would like Tendai, The Beast to accompany their child on the first day of school, and Prince’s parents said it would be a dream come true for him,” added Klassen.

Proud parents Blessing Kanyumba and Richard Jori were also at the school to see their son off on his first day of school.

“It was a morning to remember. It was great for my boy. He knows The Beast from TV and is always excited to see him on TV,” said Kanyumba.
