Robbery suspect arrested after fleeing crime scene by bus

Three suspects are reported to have stormed into a store on West Street and robbed employees of cash and cellphones at gunpoint.

ONE suspect was arrested after attempting to flee the scene of a crime by bus. It is alleged that the suspect and his two accomplices robbed a business at gunpoint on Dr Pixley KaSeme Street (West Street) in central Durban on Tuesday, January 10.

This according to SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda who said the arrest came after a concerted effort by SAPS and the Durban Metro police.

“Three suspects are reported to have stormed into a store on West Street and robbed [the store of] money and employees [of their] cellphones at gunpoint. Reports also indicate that the suspects boarded a bus to escape from the scene of the crime,” said Netshiunda.

Police sprung into action and intercepted the bus.

“Swift response by the law enforcement agencies led to the interception of the bus on Smith Street (Anton Lembede Street), and one suspect was nabbed. He was found in possession of the suspected stolen money, two firearms, and two cellphones belonging to two employees of the store where the robbery occurred,” said Netshiunda.
