Denis Hurley Centre seeking clinic coordinator

WITH the new year in full force, there is a myriad of challenges facing Durban residents, especially those who are battling against poverty. If you are a qualified nurse and would like to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate, local non-profit organisation, the Denis Hurley Centre, is offering an amazing opportunity for you to give back.

“We are looking for a coordinator for our Usizo Lwethu Clinic to build on the excellent work done by Ruth Birtwhistle over the past five and a half years. The candidate must be a registered nurse with a Primary Healthcare qualification and experience,” says the Denis Hurley Centre director, Raymond Perrier.

Perrier says that the clinic provides lifesaving healthcare to refugees and homeless people, seeing over 100 patients a day.

“The coordinator works with a team of 11 people (nurses, community health workers and social workers) to provide primary healthcare, HIV testing, ARV initiation and TB treatment, both in our building and on the streets of Durban. This will appeal to a nurse who wants to make a real difference in the lives of neglected people, and who also wants to know they are leading the only dedicated clinic of its type in the country. We welcome all applicants, especially people of all faiths, from older nurses to foreign nurses,” said the director.

Perrier says the requirements are as follows:

Someone who:
– Is a Registered Nurse
– Is Primary Healthcare qualified
– Is preferably NIMART-certified
– Has at least 5 years of work experience in the field
– Is keen to work with homeless people and refugees

“Unsolicited CVs and applications from people who do not qualify will be ignored,” said Perrier.
