UPDATE: Berea drive-by-shooting suspects at large

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

A CASE of attempted murder is being investigated by SAPS, together with HAWKS (the South African Police Services’ Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation), after a man was shot at during a drive-by-shooting on Problem Mkhize Road in Berea yesterday, January 5.

Speaking to Berea Mail, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo of HAWKS said the number of suspects involved is unknown at this stage.

“I can confirm that a vehicle was shot at by unknown suspects while the victim was sitting in his car – a Mercedes – on Problem Mkhize Road,” he said.

“The suspects fled the scene. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage. HAWKS together with SAPS are investigating a case of attempted murder. No arrests have been made at this stage,” continued Mhlongo.

He added that the victim is recovering in hospital, although the extent of his injuries is unknown to HAWKS.
