Three killed in Durban shootout

Two security guards lost their lives in the incident that left three dead.

THREE people were killed and three more people seriously injured in a shooting incident on Market Road in Central Durban just before 11:30 on Sunday, November 20.

According to spokesperson for ALS Paramedic Medical Services, Garreth Jamieson, the shootout ensued during a botched business robbery.

“It is alleged that a supermarket was in the process of being robbed when SAPS vehicles and private security vehicles arrived. A shootout ensued, and multiple people sustained gunshot wounds,” said Jamieson.

Jamieson said paramedics from multiple ambulance services worked together to treat six patients on the scene.

“Three people, including two security guards, were found with fatal gunshot wounds, and despite Advanced Life Support Paramedics’ attempts to resuscitate them, there was nothing more paramedics could do for them, and they were declared deceased on the scene. Another three people, including a security guard and an SAPS member, sustained serious gunshot wounds and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that they required,”  said Jamieson

ALS Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the SAPS already in attendance.

“A quick survey of the scene was conducted, and immediately, more ambulances, as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics, were dispatched to the scene,” said Jamieson.

At this stage, the events leading up to the incident are unknown, however, SAPS and Metro Police are on the scene and will be investigating further.
