eThekwini is ready for King Misuzulu’s Handover Ceremony

The City is prepared for the event that will attract thousands and believes it will bring a much-needed boost to eThekwini’s economy.

THE City is in full gear as it prepares for one of the biggest events of the AmaZulu nation with the handover ceremony of a certificate to recognise His Majesty, King Misuzulu Sinqobile kaZwelithini. A certificate of recognition will be presented by State President Cyril Ramaphosa to His Majesty at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 29. The event is expected to draw thousands of both national and international visitors.

The City’s state of readiness was presented by Community and Emergency Services Committee chairperson Councillor Zama Sokhabase to the Executive Committee during a meeting held on  October 18 at City Hall.

The handover ceremony follows the traditional coronation ceremony held last month.

Speaking on the report tabled at the Executive Committee, Councillor Sokhabase said, “This all-important ceremony will confirm the City’s reputation for hosting major events. It brings with it significant economic contributions for the city and its businesses, especially those in the hospitality sector. This will contribute to much-needed economic growth for eThekwini.”

The ceremony will also include the taking of a special oath of office administered by a designated member of the judiciary. Amabutho, the Zulu king’s regiments, are expected to attend in their thousands.

Various City departments are working to ensure that the event is safe and successful.
