Durban dancers battle it out for top spot

Raw talent and outrageous antics spilt out on stage while the regional qualifier winner was being chosen.

ONE of the biggest street dance competitions in the world, Red Bull Dance Your Style, has made a comeback in South Africa.

On Saturday, July 23, Red Bull hosted a spectacular dance event at Suncoast which showcased various dance styles from the best performers in Durban. The competition included showcase battles that determined the top 16 street dancers in South Africa who will compete in the national final in Pretoria this October.

Johannesburg will host the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final on December 10, where over 30 countries will bring their best street dancers to one of the world’s biggest street dance competitions. Red Bull Dance Your Style brings all street dance styles together in a battle of creativity, improvisation and wowing the audience to take the title of world champion.

This weekend was the chance for Durban’s dancers to show off their talents at the regional qualifiers. Spectators gathered at Suncoast to witness raw talent, outrageous antics, competitive tension and star quality all spilt out on the Red Bull Dance Your Style regional qualifier stage.

The overall winner, after facing fierce competition and coming out victorious, and one of 16 street dancers in South Africa who will compete in the national final in Pretoria this October, was Diddy Mayanda. Mayanda won the crowd over with his technical talent, ability to adapt to any style and entertaining facial expressions.
