Kidnappers demanded ransom for son’s return, says Durban father
The father of a Morningside man, who was abducted after a hijacking on Sunday night, has spoken out about their ordeal.
MORNINGSIDE resident Chad Dorkin has been found and is now back home with his family. The 24-year-old was taken by abductors while visiting friends at Woodford Grove off Umgeni Road, at around 19:00 on Sunday night.
Chad was found unharmed on Monday night.
In a statement, Chad’s father, Elton Dorkin, said Chad’s vehicle was hijacked, and he was abducted and held in multiple locations over a 24-hour period.
“Following the involvement of the local police and private security groups, at approximately 21:00 on Monday night, Chad was released, unharmed, in the vicinity of Queen Nandi Drive, Durban,” said Elton.
Elton has confirmed that a ransom was demanded for his son’s release. However, due to ongoing police investigations, he cannot disclose any further details.

“The abductors did not provide any motive for the kidnapping,” said Dorkin.
Elton says that Chad is at home resting and recovering from the trauma.
“He is incredibly grateful for all the prayers and support. We are all deeply appreciative of the Durban community which came together to support us through this painful experience. The efforts undertaken by the police, private security groups, community watch forums, prayer groups, the Anglo-American family, and, especially, by our dear friends, family, and neighbours, are what made it possible for us to come out on the other side of this,” said Elton.

KZN police Captain Muzi Maphumulo confirmed that the victim returned home safely.
“He was returned last night. He had no injuries. Police are, however, still looking for the vehicle, and the investigation is still ongoing,” said Maphumulo.
