Darren Maule celebrates 50th birthday with a community blood drive
Darren Maule, with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), hosted a massive Blood Drive at Netcare St Augustine's Hospital to commemorate the upcoming international holiday, World Blood Donor Day, and to celebrate the veteran entertainer and host’s 50th birthday.
SEASONED stand-up comedian, actor and entertainer, Darren Maule, who heads up the East Coast Breakfast team every weekday, celebrated his 50th birthday this morning with a massive community blood drive at Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital.
Ahead of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, and in celebration of his 50th birthday, East Coast Radio’s Darren Maule wanted to do something special by giving back, so the much-loved radio station partnered with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) to help give others a fighting chance. The East Coast Radio (ECR) Breakfast Show anchor is a widely loved and well-respected entertainer and host and has made a name for himself over the past two decades appearing on TV and on stage.

The event had an impressive turnout, with many of Darren’s listeners and supporters taking part in the charity initiative.
The entire ECR Breakfast team was at the occasion, broadcasting live, with the opportunity for fans to meet Darren, Keri and Sky. There was a wide selection of treats for blood donors, including coffee from Hirsch’s, muffins from Ampath Laboratories, chicken strips and rice from Pedros, boerie rolls from Empact Group, and free water bottles from First National Bank (FNB), and gifts from the SANBS team.
The SANBS team has yet to announce how many pints of blood were collected from the drive, but with the vast number of attendees, it’s safe to say, many lives will be saved as a result of the many Durban residents who showed up to support the worthy cause.
