WATCH: Durban hosts national bowls comp

The finals are done and dusted, and the results are in.

BOWLER Desiree Levin defended her title, taking home the gold medal at the South African National Championships held in Durban recently.

Physically disabled bowlers took to the greens at Durban Bowling Club while the visually impaired bowlers competed at Parkhill Bowling Club in Durban North.

Competitors took to the greens for the finals on Saturday, May 28, after nearly a week of fierce competition.

Levin took home the gold for the ladies singles, followed by Margie Palmer who won the silver medal and Vicky van Der Merwe who took home the bronze.

In the ladies pairs, Levin won gold again, along with Jill Pearson and Mandy Latimore, while Annatjie Meyer and Vicky Van der Merwe took home the silver medal.

In the B8 Men’s singles, Wimpie Viljoen won gold while silver went to Gareth Reese-Gibbs, and Eric Stresso brought home the bronze medal. The B7 Mens singles saw Jarid James win the gold medal, followed by Nico Beetge, with silver and Pikkie Loots with bronze.
The B6 Men’s singles gold went to Logan Subramony, silver to Neill Liddiard and bronze to Glen MaCintosh.

In the Men’s pairs, Jarid James and Gareth Reese-Gibbs won gold, while Neill Liddiard and Peter Vos snatched the silver medal, and bronze went to Eddie van der Heiden and Wimpie Viljoen.

There are eight categories in disability bowls. The first four are for the visually impaired with B1 referring to bowlers who are totally blind, while B4 bowlers have some vision. B5 to B8 classifications refer to physical abilities.
