WATCH: Fishing event goes swimmingly well

Ramcatfishing hosted about 60 people with disabilities, especially those who are wheelchair-bound, for a fun day of fishing.

NOW in its 15th year, the annual fishing day, hosted by Ramcatfishing, went off without a hitch at the Durban Naval Base on Saturday, April 23.

The weather held up as the local fishing club welcomed wheelchair bound ‘fish folk’ and amputees for a fun day at the water’s edge.

Also joining in to lend a helping hand were the 1st Port Natal Sea Scouts. Held annually, the fishing day is all about putting a smile on someone’s face, said organiser, Yster Smal of Ramcatfishing.

He said the event was inspired by a circle of friends who were conscripted soldiers, taking care of those injured in the line of duty.

Mark Gouws who attended the caught four fish including two salmons and a grunter.

“Judging by the size of the fish, they were all over 2kgs,” he said.
