Man robbed of bank card, suspects withdraw R38 000

SAPS has called on the community to set daily withdrawal limits on their bank accounts.

A DURBAN man was robbed of a whopping R38000 after suspects stole his ATM card in central Durban recently.

Captain Muzi Maphumulo of the Durban Central SAPS has since called on the community to set daily withdrawals limits on their bank cards.

“One transaction was made to withdraw the money. This is the first incident we have received where such a large sum could be withdrawn in one transaction. Durban Central police is appealing to community members to fix a daily withdrawals limits to their bank cards,” he said.

Maphumulo said the victim of the theft was walking along Dr Pixley Kaseme Street at about 22:00 when two suspects approached him and stole his bank cards and cellphone.

The man went to his bank the next day to get a new card only to discover that R38000 had been withdrawn from his account.

A case of robbery is being investigated by Durban Central SAPS. Maphumulo urged the community to report crimes.

“People should report any criminal activity or suspicions of crime to SAPS emergency numbers 0860010111 or 10111,”he said.
