Woman traumatised after aggravated robbery in CBD

The woman was robbed of her wig, cellphone and necklace.

A WOMAN was left traumatised after she was robbed at 13:00 on Wednesday, April 6. Durban Central SAPS were patrolling in the CBD when found the woman crying on Dr Pixley KaSeme Street near Bayside Hotel.

Spokesperson for the Durban Central SAPS, Captain Muzi Maphumulo said the woman was robbed of her wig, necklace, and cellphone.

“SAPS were conducting a stop and search operation when they saw a woman who was crying and appeared to be highly traumatized. The members approached her in order to find out what the problem was,” said Maphumulo.

The woman told SAPS members that the three suspects who accosted her had fled toward College Lane with the stolen items.

“Members acted swiftly and proceeded to College Lane where the complainant managed to point out one of the suspects,” said Maphumulo.

SAPS arrested the first suspect on the spot before locating the second and third suspects in the vicinity.  The suspects, aged between 21 and 31 years old, were arrested for aggravated robbery, possession of stolen property, and possession of dangerous weapons.

“The complainant’s wig was recovered from one of the suspects. Members are continuing with the investigation to recover the cellphone and necklace. The Durban Central station commander Brigadier Parumasur had commended members for their perseverance and good work,” said Maphumulo.

The suspects are expected to appear in Durban Magistrates court soon.
