Support charity with a dinner dance

The dinner dance will help to raise funds to buy new beds for residents.

LOCAL organisation, Durban and Coastal Mental Health is putting the ‘fun’ in fundraiser with a dinner and dance on 1 April at 6pm. The dance takes place Durban and Coastal Mental Health, 3 Hatton Avenue, Sherwood with the dress code: Ties and Tiaras.

Trinisha Bachoo, contract debtors clerk for Durban and Coastal Mental Health said funds raised will be used to buy new beds to residents.

“We are currently raising funds for this cause. So let’s sew into the lives of persons with disabilities and put a smile on someone’s face who is part of one of the most vulnerable groups of our society,” she said.

According to Bachoo, the residential care programme caters to 325 people with intellectual and psychiatric disabilities. She said funds raised will be used to purchase beds seven residential care centres: Manor Halfway house (Morningside), Sherwood Hostel, Azalea Halfway House (Berea), Phoenix Hostel, Austerville Halfway house (Wentworth), Umlazi Halfway House and Jona Vaughan Home (Amanzimtoti).

In March Durban and Coastal Mental Health launched their Buy a Brick campaign, to raise funds to buy bricks to build bases for each resident’s bed.

“We appeal to the various stakeholders, business sector and communities members to be a blessing to someone in need and donate generously to this cause,” said Bachoo.
