Girl (12) hit by car in Durban CBD, looses foot

The girl was one of several pedestrians injured in the accident.

A 12-YEAR-OLD girl is in a critical condition after she lost her foot in a serious motor vehicle collision on Qashana Khuzwayo Road (Shepstone Road).

Paramedics rushed to the scene of the collision just before 21:00 on Friday, January 21.

According to the spokesperson for Emer-G-Med paramedics, Kyle Van Reenen, the girl was one of multiple pedestrians who were struck by the driver of a light motor vehicle.

“A twelve-year-old girl was found in a critical condition, having suffered an amputation to her foot. Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise her before she was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital,” said Van Reenen.

Van Reenen said an on-scene triage area was established.

“A call was made by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre for additional resources,” he added.
