IEB 2021 matric results: Clifton learner scores 100% for Maths

CLIFTON College welcomed back the class of 2021 to collect their matric results today, January 19. There were several matriculants who passed with multiple distinctions, including, George Tattari  who scored 100% for mathematics.

“To see the numbers on the page, I was really shocked. Even though I had worked really hard for maths, it was still a surprise. Everything takes hard work. My maths teacher, Mr Soonderjee has had a tremendous influence on my life as a whole over the past five years; he has done much more than solidify my understanding in maths,” said Tattari.

He plans to put his maths skills to use this year as he studies actuarial science in Cape Town.

“One of the most important things this year was having a strong support system around me including my teachers, my family, and my headmaster, Mr Knowles,” said the matriculant.

Tattari was one of four learners who achieved eight distinctions and made it into the top 1% of IEB candidates for selected subjects. The other three learners were: Connor Buck, Tiashan Moodley and Nicholas Phipps.

Dave Knowles, the former executive headmaster for the school, said there was a 100% pass rate with all 90 matric learners achieving a bachelor’s degree pass and four learners achieving aggregates of over 91%.

“At the beginning of 2021, we set ourselves a goal of 100% bachelor degree passes, so I am really happy to see that we reached that goal. This is a collective effort from the teachers, the boys, and their families, and I congratulate them all,” he said.

Knowles, who retired at the end of 2021, visited the school to congratulate the matriculants.

“It was nice to be back on the Clifton campus this morning after being away for a few weeks. The school is looking great and the boys and staff have already settled into the new academic year,” he said.
