Daniel Sheldon said his favourite Christmas meal is a braai Smörgåsbord.

HAVE you ever wondered how a Durban Jazz artists spends their Christmas? Wonder no more as we met up with Daniel Sheldon, a Durban musician and visual artist, and found out just what he gets up to during the festive season.

Sheldon, who plays trumpet and percussion, is a member of not one but four bands: Beat-Route, Take2, Manteca and AfroGong.

We asked him to share his favourite Christmas traditions and this is what the Jazz artists had to say:

What are your favourite Christmas traditions that you can’t go without?

“I enjoy sunny braais with family!”

How has Covid-19 impacted the way you celebrate Christmas?

“Covid-19 has, sadly, made it a little quieter on all fronts, including work and socialising.”

What is your worst/best Christmas present?

“I’m not sure I have received a gift I could describe as ‘the worst Christmas present’. I don’t really enjoy working on Christmas day while my family is spending the day together.  My best present was a cat – that gift can’t be beaten.”

What is your favourite Christmas meal?

“My favourite meal is a braai Smörgåsbord.”

This as an opulent braai with an array of meat and side dishes.

Tell us about your successful New Year’s resolutions which are still in play after so many years:

“My only successful New Year’s resolution is this: don’t make New Year’s resolutions.”
